6 Ways To Get The Kids Outdoors This Summer

October 6th, 2009

Summer is time for outdoor fun with your kids. However, sometimes the days are long & your ideas are short. Here are some ideas to help you make sure your active ones are busy & getting many fresh air this summer.

Flat You
Lay on the sidewalk & take turns outlining each other. Decorate your flat selves by drawing clothing & funny faces. To make this project educational, you can read the book “Flat Stanley” as well.

Garden
Your child will learn science, responsibility & have fun by planting a garden & maintaining it. In fact, if you have the time or inclination, you can make the entire landscape edible. How fun would it be to wander around the yard snacking? Blueberry bushes, strawberries, herbs, & fruit trees are all easy to maintain. Some vegetables, like tomatoes require nothing but a lot of water & sunshine to grow like weeds. Start small & see what happens.

Hoola Hoops
Has your child ever tried to hoola-hoop? Show him how. Then, take hoola hoops & make a pretend circus in the yard or try to get your dog to jump through two. You are only limited by your imagination.

Bubbles
Bubbles are always a favorite. Take turns chasing & popping them. Blow bubbles with various bubble wands to see how their shapes & sizes differ.

Hopscotch
Teach your infants how to play hopscotch. Let them draw their own hopscotch patterns. If they are like I was as a child, they’ll make hundreds of squares & hop around all day.

Turn on the Sprinklers
There’s no require to buy a pool when the old-fashioned sprinklers are as much fun. There is definitely something special about walking around in the front yard through the sprinklers, when the neighbor infants see you having fun & join in.

Be sure to print out this list & keep it handy for the next time your kids say “MOMMMMMM — we’re bored!”

Men – Why Do You Batter Women?

October 2nd, 2009

In this century when we all talk of exploring mars and reaching help to the deep corners of Africa, is it not only surprising and also shameful that some men batter their wives? Whatever we say, we cannot deny that women are getting battered. A syndrome has also been names after this – Battered Women syndrome. Why should men beat women? Let us look at this barbarism.

Frustration must be one of the reasons. Do men enjoy taking out their frustration of career failures and problems on women? Or they are sadists? If they do not like their woman, they should separate. How can they be allowed to beat women? That is reprehensible and barbaric. How can an educated man beat a woman? What drives him to do that? Is their any profile of such men who do this?

What if the woman is not meek and retaliates. There will be bloodshed. Why a beautiful relationship reaches such depths is beyond my imagination and thinking. How society allows this. Why such men are not boycotted from the society? What is the problem with such men that they batter their woman?

As men, we are protectors of women and not supposed to beat them. Why do we men do it? In a survey in India, it was found that a majority of men who beat women come from highly educated class. This is more shocking. These men keep a mask of good behavior in society and beat the woman in the confines of their home. Please let all men decide that come what may, they will never ever batter their woman. That is inhuman.

Making Time to Write this Holiday Season

September 24th, 2009

As the countdown to Christmas day continues, most everyone is naturally all wrapped up in preparing for the big day (and the eve of the big day and the day after the big day…).

Whether it’s shopping, baking, or hosting holiday gatherings, you are probably engaged in time-consuming activities related to the season.
Although your dedication to these tasks is completely reasonable and most likely pre-planned, your ability to meet these demands and still have to write may not be as realistic.

In order to maintain your sanity through the holidays, you should not allow your writing time to totally disappear. You may find yourself feeling somewhat stressed out, as you try to tackle the gift buying and deal with the family get-togethers.

I honestly believe that if you make time to write during this hectic season, you may alleviate some of the inevitable anxiety associated with the holidays. Writing can be as relaxing to writers as watching television is to couch potatoes.

You should not overlook the value of a little me time (or break/rest time for you alone). Schedule some me time or free time into your busy day, and then actually TAKE IT!

During this break period (however small it may be), you may find that it will help you to write about your worries and/or aggravations. You could accomplish this goal by:

1. Recording the events of your day into a diary of sorts before you go to sleep each night.
2. Writing random thoughts or jotting down brief notes as they come to mind through out your day.
3. Carrying a journal with you to family gatherings, shopping expeditions, holiday celebrations and related events and then use it to write whatever you feel like writing about at any given time.

(For example, you may observe something that inspires a story idea or you may want to record actual images, scenes or conversations that occur during these seasonal festivities.)

Making lists of things associated with the holidays that you either know a lot about or want to learn more about – which in turn could serve as possible article ideas for next year at this time.

Chronicle your feelings about your child as you watch him experience his first Christmas and then continue to do this each year until he no longer believes in Santa Claus (or until you no longer see the look in his eyes expressing the natural awe of the season that only children have).

Compile your account of these yearly events into a memoir for yourself and/or as a gift to share with your child when he gets older. You could also use your chronicle as a stepping stone for a possible book about Christmas, children, holidays etc…

Whatever you write about or however you choose to use your writing time, your primary goal will be achieved, if you just TAKE TIME to write during this busy season!

Best of luck to you and Happy Holidays to you and your families.
